Some weekly/daily planning and some pens/mildliner swatches.
I’ve been a little quiet here and not posting as often. I think I’ll get back to it now. I had an interesting couple of weeks and I decided to take a week off to rest and recuperate from the stressful thing April was. I checked progress and adjusted my study goals too. I don’t know when exactly I’ll start work so, it was a good idea to feel refreshed and get back to studying again.

December Digital Journal
Today I went from being very concerned about a family member's medical emergency, and ended the day with a health scare of my own which left me exhausted and drained, and anyway long story short I just made this journal to help distract myself and thought you might like it.
It's what I like to think of as my Dark Mode journal. Because it's 4 AM and I'm sitting in my dark room and I didn't feel like being blasted by light. It's also a minimalist design, mostly because I wanted to make one quick so I could get to using it and do a little journaling.
Super simple. Monthly glance, Weekly pages, and 21 Journal entry pages. If you're stuck on what to write about in your journal entries, there's a list of suggested prompts at the end of the journal. You can use it any December.
Get it here.
Hope you get as much use out of it as I will!

#i'm so used to the pairings i'm fond of having minimal interaction (caoughs up blood. safamaple... lurien/aster...)#that i forget what it's like to see them with. actual interactions... ahhh it's so sweet. they're so sweet. who allowed this#literally what if i held your hands and with it held your heart. what if i told you i'd love you no matter what you may have done#what if all that mattered was a future you never once let yourself conceptualize before this... too afraid of its fragility#what then. when your hands are now filled with affection toward another; no longer burdened by the curse of harm. what then.#(&. i will say: kai literally considers ''future planner'' to be a special ability worth admiration. you are UNWELL sir!)#GRAHHH & their little teasing back/forths are always so natural... kazumi gets exasperated but it's still so. fond#i'm devastated. kazumi laughs so much around him; kai smiles the most with him... i. augh. i cannot describe the pains they put me through#jestersvaguely#yttdposting

These two mistakes are stealing your time... (They were stealing mine too!)
It can feel so disappointing to have a plan for your long-term goals written out and still feel like you are unable to achieve everything. I promise I've been there. There were two key mistakes I was making that were leaving me feeling overworked, and underproductive.
Mistake #1: Sleeping in.
I love being awake early... but I hate the act of actually waking up early. The relief that comes with knowing I'm up hours ahead of time, with plenty of wiggle room in my morning to get a head start on the day is amazing. All of a sudden, I realize my morning rush out the door doesn't need to be so stressful.
Sadly, that relief never makes the 5:00 AM alarm any easier.
The problem is that late nights lead to late mornings, and all too often I found myself rushing out the door unprepared for the day as the result of the previous night's pleasures and an extra hour of sleep. Don't get me wrong, it can feel great to sleep in on the weekend, but as my day has become less structured around a set "day job" schedule and more self-directed, I realized just how harmful the habit of sleeping in can be for an entrepreneurial lifestyle.
Many studies have led to the conclusion that our best ideas occur early in the morning and that we miss out on our most critical growth opportunities when we sleep in. I'm not saying that the early mornings are fun... I am saying that they are worth it.
Mistake #2: The cost of sacrificing high amounts of time into low-reward ventures.
As an entrepreneur, I understand the importance of casting one's net far and seeking new opportunities to learn and grow. However, sometimes your time is more valuable than what that opportunity itself may have to offer.
I recently accepted a minimum wage position (my first in years) on Saturdays, helping the owners of a small-town thrift shop set up their online sales channels. I didn't need the money, but I figured it was a great opportunity to explore online sales further as I had some experience with it already, and I loved the idea of helping another small business get off on the right track.
Unfortunately, I quickly learned that the two women who co-owned the business were not on the same terms about what they wanted long-term from the venture. Both had their own successful businesses on the side, and this little thrift shop was more of a hobby venture than one they truly wanted to see succeed.
Ultimately, it came to be that neither of them truly knew if they wanted an online sales channel at all! The six hours I spent there every Saturday was valuable time that I couldn't get back. While the idea of helping another business kick off was appealing upon a first impression, I realized that my time wasn't worth minimum wage in a place that clung to stagnation instead of capitalizing on new growth opportunities.
There will always be more opportunities than we can take — make sure the ones you do take are worth the time you will never get back.

contrast between foreground and background in a novel has become maybe the most interesting thing about a novel at this point for me. like Balzac's use of Lucien Chardon in Lost Illusions as a way to, like, show a cross section of not just French intellectual society but all the material bullshit that makes that society possible, from the petty dinner parties to the actual printing presses which make possible the transmission of all the intellectualizing while at the same time using an entire subplot to allegorically suggest the ambivalence between the decaying aristocracy and the rising bourgeoisie. it makes it feel like even though Lucien is the protagonist of the novel he truly is just some guy within a society, like both the society and the guy are interesting even if narrative would have us value the guy over the society. and even a flatter novel like A Sentimental Education uses that flatness as an effect of its depiction of its protagonist. other novels that eschew this feel like they're just wasting one of the great formal advantages of the novel, something that is by nature so subtle and evocative even when done only half thoughtfully; ever since I've read Gideon the Ninth I've wondered who produces the trashy men's interest magazines Gideon reads and how did it come about that there would be porn perfectly in line with the hierarchical needs of the setting's military.
but it's not so much that novels eschew this possibility as they just misuse or underutilize. technically there is a background in a book like Beautiful World Where Are You, but that background is wholly limited to the characters' ignorance, so it's up to the reader to supply the irony when a character sits in a convenience store in Ireland and imagines that the ingredients for a shrinkwrapped sandwich come from some distant unimaginable while in fact Ireland exports millions of dollars of lettuce to the UK and imports millions of dollars worth back from the same or from Spain. another character works in an Amazon-type warehouse sending nondescript packages to god knows where, and of course the reader has to again supply the banality and irony of this mystery: the packages would be the material odds and ends which fill the warehouse worker's and the other characters' lives.
I can think of plenty of contemporary novels that feel like this — for instance, the way Fake Accounts brings up the theme of the Cold War's End, and America and Americans' bemusement at their place in that post-something world, but then can't or won't develop that theme — but it's not so much a contemporary flaw as it is just an inherent difficulty of creating complex art. to write interestingly about supply chains and minimum wage workers you would have to actually be interested in those things and then stoke that interest long enough to research its objects and think through the problems of depiction
#a whole nother angle you could take is the more narrow and focused approach but I don't think that's what Oyler or Rooney are shooting for#like the ambition of those two novels seems much greater than the silly minimalism of both writers#So even if you would be inclined to be contrarian about the inherent validity of Wan Little Husks of Autofiction or whathaveyou#it seems clear that at least neither of those novels are trying to be narrow focused treatments of individual psychology#anyway you ever get done with a post and think WHOAH maybe I should've been a planner and not pantser for this one

#sat down with two dog groomer friends after a movie night this past weekend and discussed dog breeds#they are the best people to ask about dog breeds because they have a good idea not just on behavior but on general care needs#(and also they know me unlike my vet or the boarding kennel)#I finally nailed them down long enough to get their opinion on the best dog breed for me and the winner is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!#if I felt like going for a large breed the Bernese Mountain Dog is top of the list but if I ever got another dog I'd want something smaller#my needs:#1) has to be pretty or at least interesting to look at because I'm vain#2) minimal health concerns for the breed (major things like how GSDs have bad joints or Great Danes have the weird stomach issues)#3) friendly and intelligent but not desperate for mental stimulation 24/7 (this is why I can't do Border Collies)#(or really most shepherds much as I love them)#and lemme tell you this really narrowed the field and pretty much eliminated all mid-size breeds#because those tend to be high-energy working dogs#or balls of anxiety like bully breeds#other options: greyhounds? some mastiffs if I wanted large (the one girl brought up those HUGE leonbergers lol and newfies)#and the fourth girl there discovered basenjis which I know and love but from a distance#but in the end it kind of confirmed I'm best suited for cats these days#except I LOVE having a dog to go hiking with me since apparently the cats aren't about that#(I did try)#yes I realize my dog is alive and well but also I'm a planner#I like lists
